Fenhexamid is a synthetic fungicide belonging to the hydroxyanilide chemical class. It is specifically designed to control various fungal pathogens, primarily those responsible for rot diseases in fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. It acts as a contact fungicide with locally systemic properties, providing robust protection on the plant surface.

The primary mode of action is the inhibition of sterol biosynthesis in the fungal cell, specifically targeting the 3-keto-reductase or delta-3-isomerase enzymes. By disrupting these biochemical processes, fenhexamid effectively stops the germination of spores and the elongation of the fungal mycelium, preventing the colonization of plant tissue.
