Description
Fensulfothion is a potent organophosphorus compound primarily classified as an insecticide and nematicide. Historically, it has been utilized in agricultural production to manage soil-borne pests that pose significant threats to the root systems of various economically important crops. The mechanism of action of fensulfothion involves the inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase in the nervous system of the target pests. By preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine, the chemical triggers continuous nervous excitation, resulting in paralysis and subsequent death. This systemic property allows the compound to provide a protective zone for developing plants.
