Flutolanil

Description

Flutolanil is a systemic fungicide belonging to the benzamide chemical class, widely recognized for its high efficacy against various basidiomycete fungi. It is primarily used to protect crops from severe diseases such as sheath blight in rice and black scurf in potatoes, providing long-lasting systemic protection.

The mechanism of action of flutolanil is characterized by the inhibition of the succinate dehydrogenase (SDHI) enzyme complex within the mitochondrial respiration chain of the fungus. By disrupting the energy production process in the pathogen's cells, flutolanil prevents mycelial growth and effectively halts the progression of the disease.

Flutolanil is highly regarded for its systemic translocation within plant tissues, which allows it to provide protection to new growth after application. It is primarily applied as a seed treatment, in-furrow treatment at planting, or as a foliar spray in rice production. Its targeted specificity ensures that it effectively manages pathogens while minimizing impact on other non-target fungi.

In field conditions, flutolanil exhibits excellent residual activity, making it a reliable tool for integrated pest management (IPM) programs. It is known for its stability under various environmental conditions and high resistance to wash-off by rainfall, ensuring consistent performance in diverse agricultural settings.

When handling flutolanil, users must adhere to strict safety protocols, including wearing appropriate protective equipment (PPE). It is classified as hazardous to aquatic life, so caution is required to prevent runoff into surface water or groundwater sources. Storage should be in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from reach of children and livestock to ensure safe agricultural practice.
