Description
Isaria fumosorosea Apopka strain 97 (formerly known as Paecilomyces fumosoroseus) is a highly specialized entomopathogenic fungus utilized as an active ingredient in biological plant protection products. It serves as a natural alternative to synthetic insecticides, targeting a variety of arthropod pests while maintaining safety for the environment.
The mode of action is characterized by the penetration of the fungus into the host insect. Upon contact, the fungal spores adhere to the insect's cuticle and begin to germinate. By secreting chitinolytic enzymes, the fungus breaches the exoskeleton, invades the insect's body cavity, and kills the host by exhausting its nutrients and releasing fungal toxins.
This biological agent is widely used to manage infestations of greenhouse whiteflies, aphids, thrips, and spider mites.
