Active ingredient

Isofetamid

Description

Isofetamid is a specialized active ingredient belonging to the carboxamide chemical class, specifically the benzamide subgroup. It serves as a potent fungicide developed for the control of a range of economically significant fungal pathogens in modern agriculture, known for its high selectivity and efficacy.

The primary mechanism of action for isofetamid is the inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase (SDHI) within the fungal mitochondrial respiration chain. By binding to the ubiquinone binding site of the complex II enzyme, it effectively disrupts the energy production of the fungus, leading to a rapid inhibition of mycelial growth and pathogen development.

This compound is primarily designated for managing Botrytis species, which cause gray mold, as well as various Sclerotinia diseases. Its ability to combat strains that have developed cross-resistance to other classes of fungicides makes it a crucial component of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for high-value crops.

Isofetamid is widely utilized across several key agricultural sectors, including commercial horticulture and viticulture. Key application areas include:

  • Strawberry and other berry cultivation.
  • Greenhouse and field-grown vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers.
  • Vineyards to prevent bunch rot.

Safe and effective application of isofetamid requires adhering to established technical guidelines. Operators should wear appropriate protective clothing to avoid exposure during mixing and spraying. Furthermore, users must respect the pre-harvest interval (PHI) and follow local regulatory requirements to ensure the crop is safe for market distribution and human consumption.
