Metolachlor

Its ability to create a persistent protective barrier in the topsoil makes it a foundational tool for early-season weed management in major row crops.

The primary mode of action of Metolachlor is the inhibition of protein synthesis and cell division. The active ingredient is absorbed primarily through the coleoptile of germinating grasses and the hypocotyl of broadleaf weeds. By disrupting the early development of seedlings, the herbicide ensures that weeds are eradicated before they can compete with the crop for light, nutrients, or moisture.

This substance is effectively used on a variety of economically significant crops, including maize, sunflowers, soybeans, sugar beets, and potatoes. It is particularly valued for its efficacy against problematic weed species such as barnyard grass, foxtails, crabgrass, and certain pigweeds. It provides prolonged residual control, lasting several weeks, which is crucial for protecting young, vulnerable crops during their critical establishment phase.
