OptiCHOS
Description
OptiCHOS is an innovative plant protection product based on chitosan, a naturally occurring biopolymer derived from crustacean shells. In modern agriculture, it serves as an effective biological elicitor that triggers the plant's endogenous immune response, rather than acting as a traditional toxic chemical fungicide.
The mechanism of action of OptiCHOS is based on the induction of Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR). By applying chitosan to the foliage, the plant perceives the substance as a signal of a pathogen attack. This stimulation activates a cascade of metabolic processes, including the production of phytoalexins, enzymes, and the strengthening of cell walls, which physically and chemically prevent pathogen invasion.
OptiCHOS is widely used on a variety of crops, such as vegetables, fruits, berries, and grains. It is primarily targeted against a range of fungal and bacterial pathogens, including powdery mildew, grey mold, and various leaf spot diseases. Its use is focused on prophylactic treatment, significantly enhancing the plants' ability to withstand infection pressure.
Key advantages of OptiCHOS include its environmental safety profile, making it suitable for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and organic farming. It is non-toxic to humans, beneficial insects, and pollinators. Since it leaves no chemical residues, it is highly valued for crops close to harvest, as it carries no harvest interval restrictions.
When handling OptiCHOS, standard agricultural precautions should be followed. While the product is low-risk, using personal protective equipment during mixing is recommended. It is essential to store the product in a cool, dark place to maintain the stability of the chitosan polymers, ensuring maximum biological efficacy when applied to the crop.
