Description
Oxymatrine is a natural organic compound belonging to the class of quinolizidine alkaloids. It is extracted primarily from plants of the genus Sophora, specifically the roots of Sophora flavescens. In crop protection, this substance is classified as a broad-spectrum bio-insecticide, widely utilized in integrated pest management (IPM) and organic farming systems.
The compound exhibits strong contact and stomach action mechanisms. Upon entering the pest's system, oxymatrine interferes with the insect's nervous system by blocking nerve impulse transmission, which causes paralysis, cessation of feeding, and eventual mortality. Because of its biological origin, it effectively suppresses pest populations without triggering rapid resistance in insects.
