Polyoxin

Polyoxin is a nucleoside antibiotic fungicide derived from the fermentation of Streptomyces cacaoi. It serves as a potent systemic agent in modern crop protection, valued for its ability to target specific fungal pathogens while maintaining a favorable profile for the environment and non-target species.

The primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of chitin synthase. By interfering with the synthesis of chitin, which is vital for the integrity of the fungal cell wall, Polyoxin effectively halts the elongation of hyphae and inhibits spore germination. This targeted mode of action makes it highly effective against a broad range of phytopathogenic fungi.

Polyoxin is extensively used on a variety of crops including tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, grapes, and various ornamental plants. It is particularly effective against powdery mildew, grey mold (Botrytis), and various blight species. It is widely recognized for its therapeutic and protective potential in both open-field and greenhouse production environments.

Application strategies focus on preventive measures. Due to its systemic nature, once absorbed by the plant tissue, Polyoxin can move through the plant to protect new growth. Farmers are advised to apply the product at the earliest sign of disease or even before symptoms appear to ensure the best possible control outcomes in high-pressure environments.
