Tetradifon
Description
Tetradifon is a specialized contact acaricide belonging to the diphenyl sulfone chemical class. It is widely recognized in professional crop protection as a reliable tool for controlling herbivorous mites at various life stages, particularly during the egg and larval developmental phases.
The mechanism of action of tetradifon involves the inhibition of metabolic processes essential for mite development. It exhibits strong ovicidal and larvicidal activity, effectively preventing eggs from hatching and disrupting the normal development of newly emerged larvae. While it does not kill adult mites immediately, it significantly reduces their fertility and reproductive capacity.
This acaricide is commonly used on a variety of crops, including fruit trees, berry bushes, vegetables, citrus, and cotton. It is particularly effective against various species of spider mites, such as the two-spotted spider mite and European red mite, which are known for causing severe economic damage to agricultural yields.
A key characteristic of tetradifon is its long residual effect, which can protect plants for several weeks following a single application. Since it lacks systemic properties, it is essential to ensure thorough coverage of all plant surfaces, particularly the undersides of leaves, to achieve optimal efficacy during spray applications.
When handling tetradifon, it is mandatory to follow strict safety protocols, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Operators should avoid direct contact, minimize exposure to non-target areas, and respect the recommended pre-harvest intervals to ensure the safety of the final product and the environment.
