Description

Tolclofos-methyl is a potent organophosphorus fungicide widely used in modern agriculture to control soil-borne diseases. Unlike systemic fungicides, it acts through contact and residual activity, providing a protective barrier around the seed or tuber that prevents fungal spores from establishing infection in the soil environment.

The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of phospholipid biosynthesis and interference with the cell division of pathogenic fungi. By disrupting the vital metabolic processes of the pathogen, tolclofos-methyl effectively prevents the growth of mycelium. It is particularly valued for its specific efficacy against Rhizoctonia species and other soil-borne fungi that threaten crop germination.
