Tri-allate

Description

Tri-allate belongs to the thiocarbamate chemical class. It is a selective soil-applied herbicide specifically designed to control annual grass weeds, particularly wild oats, in various field crops.

The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of weed seed germination and early seedling development. The herbicide is primarily absorbed by the coleoptile of the emerging grass seedlings, disrupting lipid and protein synthesis, which prevents the weed from establishing itself above the soil surface.

The primary crops for tri-allate application include spring and winter wheat, barley, and certain pulse crops. It is highly valued for its efficacy against wild oats, although it generally lacks activity against broadleaf weed species, often requiring tank-mix partners for full spectrum control.

A crucial agronomic feature of tri-allate is the requirement for immediate mechanical incorporation into the soil after application. This step is essential to prevent volatilization and photo-degradation, ensuring that the active ingredient remains in the top 3–5 cm of soil where germination occurs.

  • Excellent control of wild oats in cereal crops.
  • Provides a protective residual soil barrier.
  • Requires immediate soil incorporation for effectiveness.
  • Selective mode of action for crop safety.

Safety precautions must be strictly followed when handling tri-allate. Operators should wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid skin and respiratory exposure. Furthermore, measures must be taken to prevent drift or runoff into water sources, as the substance is toxic to aquatic life.
