Description
Trichoderma afroharzianum (strain T-22) and Trichoderma atrobrunneum (strain ITEM 908) are widely recognized beneficial fungal strains utilized as active ingredients in modern biological plant protection products. These fungi act as powerful biocontrol agents, specifically targeting various soil-borne pathogens that threaten the health and yield of numerous crop species.
The mode of action for these strains is multifaceted, involving mycoparasitism, nutrient competition, and the induction of systemic resistance in host plants. By colonizing the rhizosphere, these beneficial fungi physically displace harmful pathogens and produce enzymes that degrade the cell walls of fungi such as Fusarium, Pythium, and Rhizoctonia, effectively suppressing their growth.
These biological fungicides are primarily applied through seed treatments, soil drenching, or incorporation into growing media.
