Chemically, this substance belongs to the aldehyde group. Its primary application in agriculture is the sanitary treatment of production facilities. It is used to eliminate fungal spores, bacteria, and viral particles in controlled environments, which is essential for maintaining the sanitary conditions required for successful crop production in greenhouses and storage facilities.

The mechanism of action relies on the alkylation of proteins and nucleic acids within the target pathogens. This process causes irreversible structural damage to the cellular components of microorganisms, leading to their death.
