Transpiration

This is the process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from aerial parts, such as leaves, stems, and flowers.

Также говорят: plant evaporation, plant water loss

Transpiration serves as the primary mechanism for nutrient uptake and thermoregulation in crops. By creating a negative pressure gradient, it allows water and dissolved minerals to travel from the roots to the furthest extremities of the plant.

Effective irrigation management requires an understanding of transpiration rates, which fluctuate based on weather conditions like wind, humidity, and temperature. A common management error is over-irrigation during high-humidity periods, which can lead to root suffocation. Farmers should monitor evapotranspiration data to adjust watering schedules, ensuring the plant maintains its metabolic functions without entering a state of water stress.
