Spray angle

The spray angle is a fundamental characteristic that dictates how a pesticide is distributed across the field. It determines the overlap between adjacent nozzles, ensuring that the spray pattern is uniform across the entire boom width.

For nozzles with a wide spray angle (typically 110 to 120 degrees), the boom height must be adjusted to ensure correct pattern overlap. Narrower spray angles are often selected when working in windy conditions to allow for a lower boom height, which reduces drift and improves the deposition of droplets on the intended target.

A common mistake is using the wrong boom height for the selected spray angle, leading to striped coverage or inconsistent pest control. Operators should also be aware that nozzle wear over time can distort the spray angle, leading to significant deviations in application accuracy; therefore, regular calibration and inspection are essential.
