The biology of this species is defined by its strong, deep-reaching taproot, which allows it to withstand severe weather conditions and competition. It reproduces both through seeds and vegetatively via rootstocks. This vegetative regeneration is the primary reason why simple mechanical tilling sometimes fails to eradicate the weed, as broken root segments can generate new plants.
