Daisy Bush

Daisy Bush, scientifically known as Olearia albida, is a robust evergreen shrub belonging to the Asteraceae family. Often utilized in landscaping for its durability, this species is highly valued for its ability to form dense screens and windbreaks. It is a hardy plant that thrives in coastal environments, making it a reliable choice for challenging horticultural sites.

The plant originates from New Zealand, where it is found in diverse habitats ranging from coastal cliffs to forest margins. Because of its native environment, it is best suited for cultivation in regions with mild, oceanic climates. In such areas, Olearia albida can reach significant heights and widths, developing into a substantial specimen if given enough space.

Botanically, Olearia albida is characterized by its leathery, elliptical leaves, which feature a distinctive dark green top and a silvery-white, felted underside. This bicolor effect is a key ornamental feature. The plant produces small, daisy-like flower heads that appear in clusters, contributing to its aesthetic appeal while providing nectar for local pollinators during the flowering season.

In terms of agrotechnics, this plant requires well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine.
