Umbrella sedge (Fuirena umbellata) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Cyperaceae family. It is recognized in agricultural science as a vital wetland crop capable of thriving in waterlogged substrates where conventional monocultures fail to survive, making it an essential component of tropical land management.

Originating from the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Americas, this species is well-adapted to warm climates with significant rainfall. It is commonly found in marshes, along riverbanks, and in irrigated paddy fields, showing great resilience to fluctuating water levels and varying levels of soil oxygenation.
