Olympic quillwort (Isoetes olympica) is a rare species of spore-bearing vascular plant belonging to the family Isoetaceae. While it is not a traditional agricultural commodity, it is of significant interest in botanical conservation and academic research, serving as a biological marker for specific high-altitude aquatic ecosystems.

The plant originates from the mountainous regions of Turkey, particularly the Uludag mountain range. Its natural range is strictly confined to small, ephemeral pools, alpine meadows, and areas surrounding melting snowbanks. These habitats are characterized by their fragility and isolation, which dictates the limited distribution of the species across the landscape.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by a short, fleshy, corm-like stem that bears a tuft of narrow, quill-like leaves, hence the common name. Spore production occurs within sporangia located at the base of these leaves. This structure allows the plant to survive in environments that cycle between being waterlogged and completely desiccated, acting as a biological strategy for resilience.

Requirements for cultivation involve strict adherence to water quality standards, as the plant is highly sensitive to pollutants and nutrient loading. In controlled environments, soil substrate must be nutrient-poor and mineral-rich to mimic its native alpine environment. Because it is not a commercial crop, there are no standard agricultural protocols; instead, cultivation is handled as a preservation effort in botanical gardens or specialized nurseries.

Currently, the main use of the species is in scientific research and ecological restoration projects aimed at protecting endangered flora. The plant does not suffer from traditional agricultural pests or diseases, though its population is highly vulnerable to habitat degradation.
