The Rubber plant (Ficus elastica) is a prominent species within the Moraceae family. In its native tropical habitat, this plant grows into a massive tree characterized by thick, glossy, dark green leaves and a complex aerial root system that provides structural support and stability in the dense forest environment.

Originating from Southeast Asia, specifically India and Indonesia, the Rubber plant played a significant historical role as a primary source for natural rubber extraction. The milky latex found in its tissues was harvested to meet industrial demands, making it a plant of considerable agricultural and economic importance in the early 20th century.

Botanically, the species is distinguished by its leathery, thick leaves which are designed to store water and survive in regions with intermittent precipitation.
