This plant is well-known for its ability to thrive in saturated soil conditions, often acting as a significant component of wetland flora.

Originating primarily from Asian regions, this species has successfully naturalized in various parts of the globe where moist, temperate or tropical climates persist. In agricultural contexts, it is widely recognized as a problematic weed in paddy fields, where it competes aggressively with rice crops for nitrogen and space, necessitating dedicated management strategies.
