Description
Cladosporium amazonense is a fungal pathogen belonging to the Ascomycota division, known for causing significant foliage diseases in various woody plants. The disease is characterized as a necrotic leaf spot, which fundamentally interferes with the plant's ability to undergo photosynthesis and maintain energy balance.
The primary host of this pathogen is the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis. In industrial agriculture, the infestation by this fungus leads to reduced growth rates and a decrease in the quality and quantity of rubber yield, making it a subject of continuous monitoring in rubber-producing regions.
Symptoms typically manifest as small, irregular lesions on leaves that transition from chlorotic spots to dark, necrotic tissue. Under high humidity conditions, the underside of the affected leaf exhibits a fuzzy, velvety layer, which is indicative of the fungal conidiophores and conidia production.
The development and dispersal of Cladosporium amazonense are highly dependent on environmental conditions. High humidity levels and prolonged leaf wetness are critical factors that facilitate the germination and infection of host tissues. Spores are primarily disseminated by wind and water splash, allowing the pathogen to move effectively across plant rows.
