Coccodinia is a genus of fungi belonging to the order Capnodiales, which are responsible for specific plant diseases characterized primarily by localized infections on foliage and stems. As a fungal pathogen, it impacts the host's ability to maintain healthy photosynthesis and nutrient transport, often manifesting as distinct spots or surface lesions.
The host range for this pathogen primarily includes deciduous trees and various woody ornamental shrubs. It typically colonizes the surface layers of leaves, where the mycelium establishes itself, potentially leading to a chronic infection if the environmental conditions remain favorable for the fungus to persist.
The clinical signs of a Coccodinia infection include the appearance of dark, often circular or irregular spots on the leaf surface.
