Maize leaf fleck is a viral disease caused by the Maize leaf fleck virus (MLFV). It is a significant pathogen that disrupts the physiological functions of the corn plant, leading to stunted growth and reduced grain yield if not managed properly by agricultural producers.
The primary host for this disease is maize (Zea mays). The virus typically infects plants during their active growth phases, causing systemic symptoms that spread through the foliage as the disease progresses throughout the field.
Symptoms of the infection are characterized by numerous small, chlorotic flecks or spots on the leaf surface.
