It is important to clarify that Methanosarcinales are not a plant disease. They are an order of methanogenic archaea found in anaerobic environments. In an agricultural context, these organisms are not pathogens and do not cause any harm to crops, plant tissues, or agricultural production systems.

These microorganisms are essential biological agents in the breakdown of organic matter under anaerobic conditions. They are most commonly encountered in waste management systems, such as anaerobic digesters used for biogas production, where they convert organic waste into methane and nutrient-rich digestate used as bio-fertilizer.

The development of Methanosarcinales is strictly dependent on the absence of oxygen and the availability of specific substrates like acetate or methanol. They do not exhibit symptoms of infection, nor do they spread like plant diseases. Their presence in soil is a natural result of waterlogging or deep organic matter decomposition, which is a normal ecological process.

There is no level of harmfulness associated with these organisms regarding plant health. On the contrary, their activity can be considered beneficial in controlled environments where waste is turned into valuable resources. In field conditions, they do not damage crops, and farmers do not need to implement any defensive strategies against them.

Preventive measures are not required, as these archaea pose no threat. Agronomists often focus on soil management techniques such as improving drainage and aeration to maintain an aerobic environment, which naturally limits the activity of methanogens. This is done to ensure optimal soil structure rather than for disease prevention or control.
