This fungus is highly effective at establishing latent infections, which can remain dormant until the host plant encounters physiological stress.
The host range of this pathogen primarily includes fruit trees, such as various species of Prunus and grapevines. It exploits wounds created by pruning, hail, or environmental factors like frost to enter the plant's vascular system. Once inside, the fungus colonizes the xylem, disrupting water and nutrient transport, leading to the gradual decline of the tree's health.
