Nigrospora fruit rot is a common fungal disease of bananas caused by the pathogen Nigrospora musae. This fungus primarily affects banana crops during the post-harvest stage, significantly reducing the marketability and shelf life of the fruit during storage and export processes.

The disease mainly impacts various cultivars of the genus Musa. Nigrospora musae is often considered a wound-infecting pathogen or a weak parasite that exploits weakened tissue, mechanical injuries sustained during handling, or the natural physiological breakdown of the fruit as it ripens.

Symptoms of the infection include the appearance of small, circular or irregular black spots on the fruit peel.
