Nimbya is a genus of fungi within the order Pleosporales that acts as a significant plant pathogen. It is primarily known for causing leaf spot and blight diseases, affecting a variety of plants, particularly those belonging to the Apiaceae family. Its biological cycle involves the production of conidia that survive in plant debris and soil, posing a recurring threat to subsequent crops.

The host range of Nimbya species includes various vegetables such as carrots and parsnips, as well as some wild grasses and ornamental plants. The disease can be particularly damaging in areas where the same host crops are grown in close rotation, allowing the fungal population to build up significantly in the soil over time.

Symptoms initially appear as small, irregular lesions on the foliage, which can eventually spread to stems and flower stalks. As the fungal infection progresses, these spots often expand, causing the leaf tissue to necroticize, curl, and die. In severe cases, extensive defoliation occurs, which directly impacts the plant's ability to store energy and produce a viable yield.

Rain splash or irrigation often facilitates the movement of conidia from the lower infected leaves to the upper, healthy parts of the plant canopy, accelerating the disease spread.
