Phytocercomoniasis is a plant disease caused by protozoan organisms belonging to the Phytocercomonas genus. Unlike common fungal or bacterial diseases, this pathogen acts as an intracellular parasite that disrupts the internal physiological processes of the host plant. It colonizes the vascular and cellular structures, leading to a systemic decline in the plant's overall health and vitality.

The primary hosts for these pathogens are various cereal crops, including wheat and barley, which are particularly susceptible during early growth stages. Effective management strategies involve integrating crop rotation with non-host species, proper drainage of irrigation water, and rigorous sanitation of farming equipment.
