Reticulascaceae is a family of ascomycetous fungi that encompasses various plant pathogens. These fungi are known for their distinct morphological features, specifically the structure of their ascocarps, which allow them to thrive in diverse environmental conditions. In agricultural and horticultural contexts, they often function as primary or secondary pathogens, attacking the woody parts and vascular tissues of host plants.

The disease mechanism involves the infiltration of fungal spores into the plant host through wounds, pruning cuts, or insect-damaged bark. Once inside, the fungus colonizes the cambium and xylem, initiating a necrotic reaction. This leads to the disruption of water and nutrient transport, which fundamentally compromises the structural and physiological integrity of the affected plant.

Primary symptoms of the disease include the development of cankers on stems and branches, discoloration of the bark, and tissue necrosis. In advanced stages, one may observe wilting leaves, stunted growth, and the eventual dieback of entire branches. The damage caused by this family of fungi results in reduced vigor, yield loss, and potential tree mortality. Effective mitigation strategies include rigorous sanitation practices, such as the immediate removal and destruction of infected material. Furthermore, application of fungicides, specifically copper-based or systemic treatments, during the dormant season and early stages of vegetation is essential for disease control.
