The host range for this pathogen includes a variety of fleshy fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, strawberries, apples, and citrus fruits. It typically targets produce that has sustained mechanical injuries, as the yeast cells exploit these wounds to colonize the interior tissue, leading to rapid degradation and softening of the fruit structure.

Symptoms of an infection involve the formation of soft, oily-looking spots on the surface of the affected plant material.
