Orlovskoe Polosatoe

Variety with late-autumn ripening fruit (Mekintosh x Bessemyanka Michurin), developed at the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Selection. Obtained through hybridization in 1957. Seed sowing was conducted in 1958. First fruiting was noted in 1966, and in 1967, the seedling was selected as elite. Breeders: E. N. Sedov, T. A. Trofimova.

The variety was accepted for State Testing in 1970 and approved for commercial use (regionally) in the Central and Central Chernozem regions of Russia, as well as in the Mogilev Region of Belarus, starting from 1986. The variety is of interest for cultivation in intensive orchards.

At international fruit exhibitions in Erfurt (GDR), the variety received two gold medals (1977 and 1984). In October 1999, at the "Revival of the Russian Village" exhibition-complex "VDNKh-EXPO", the variety Oryolskoye Pолосatoye was awarded a Diploma.

Trees of medium growth vigor, with round crowns, sufficiently winter-hardy in the Oryol and neighboring regions. Main branches arise from the trunk at a right angle, with tips pointing upward. Bark on main branches is smooth and brown.

Shoots are thick, slightly curved, dark-cherry colored, weakly hairy. Buds on shoots are numerous, medium-sized. Buds are pressed, conical. Leaves are large, broadly egg-shaped, bright green, shiny, wrinkled, with coarse veins, weakly hairy. Leaf margin is wavy, finely toothed. Leaf is curved along the central vein, apex sharply pointed and curled. Petiole is medium or shorter, thick, colored at the base. Stipules are small, lance-shaped or absent.

Flowers are large, cup-shaped, bud-stage white-pink, petals light-pink, rounded, closed, stigma below the anthers.

Fruits are above-average size, elongated, round-conical in shape. Skin is smooth, thin, glossy, oily, covered with a bluish waxy bloom. Main fruit color at harvest maturity is greenish-yellow, at consumer maturity — golden, with a covering of bright, blurred stripes and spots of intense purplish-red coloration over a pink blush. Light subcutaneous dots are clearly visible. Peduncle is short or medium, fairly thin, straight. Fruit cavity is deep or medium-depth, narrow, acute-conical, without rusting. Calyx is moderately deep, weakly ribbed. Most fruits have closed calyces, some have open ones. Heart is large, heart-shaped. Seed chambers are open. Seeds are irregularly shaped, often underdeveloped, dark-brown.

Flesh is white, with a creamy tint, finely textured, tender, very juicy, harmonious flavor with noticeable acidity, strong aroma. Sensory rating at optimal maturity is 4.2-4.6 points. Appearance rating is 4.6 points. Chemical composition of fruits: total sugar content — 10.1%, titratable acids — 0.78%, ascorbic acid content — 8.2 mg/100g, sum of P-active substances — 212 mg/100g, pectin substances — 10.7%.

Harvest maturity of fruits occurs in early September.

Fruits can be stored in a refrigerator until the end of December, sometimes even longer.

The variety is characterized by high early fruiting. First fruits typically appear by the 4th year after planting, significantly earlier than in Autumn Pолосatoye. By the 7-8th year, trees yield 40-50 kg, and by the 10-15th year, 60-80 kg of fruit. Average yield is 200 centners/ha. The variety is winter-hardy, resistant to fruit and leaf scab.

Advantages of the variety: early fruiting and yield, high fruit marketability, good taste, and relatively good resistance to scab.

Disadvantages of the variety: thin skin requires increased care during fruit harvesting.
