Polivitaminnoe

High-vitamin late-autumn maturing variety. Developed at the Moscow University by S. I. Isaev, V. V. Vartapetyan, N. N. Vysotskaya from seeds sown in 1951 of the variety 'Vitaminnoe' (Moscow Pear x Papировка). Transferred to State Testing in 1993 and regionally approved in 2002.

Medium-sized tree, with a broad-pyramidal crown of moderate density and leafiness, dark gray trunk, skeletal branches obliquely vertical, gray.

Shoots brown, straight, angular in cross-section, of medium thickness and length, internodes short. Buds small, located on the surface, sparse. Buds pressed, conical, brown, well-hairy. Leaves large, elongated, inversely egg-shaped, with a pointed tip, wrinkled, with serrated edges. Lower leaf surface densely hairy, petiole of medium length and thickness, colored throughout its length.

Fruits of medium size, one-dimensional, rounded-conical, equilateral, with unequal cross-sectional diameter and weak ribbing. Fruit surface finely warty, main color golden-yellow, with whitish subcutaneous spots. Skin covered with diffuse red stripes over most of the fruit. Peduncle of medium length and thickness, obliquely positioned. Calyx half-open, calyx tube conical, short, plate wide and deep, central cavity small, seed chambers half-open. Core large, few seeds, large, brown.

Flesh creamy, pleasant sour-sweet taste, fine-grained, very juicy, aromatic. Polivitaminnoe is a rare home apple variety with fruits containing elevated levels of three vitamins — A, C, P: ascorbic acid — 37 mg/100g (28.2–43.0 mg/100g), which is well preserved during storage; beta-carotene — 0.62 mg/100g (0.56–0.72 mg/100g); P-active substances 0.45 mg/100g (0.39–0.51 mg/100g) in the absence of bitterness; total sugars — 11.2% (9.6–12.5%), titratable acids — 0.65% (0.39–0.71%), tannins 78 mg/100g (61–88 mg/100g), pectin substances — 9.8% (5.6–12.9%) on dry weight.

Consumer maturity occurs in mid-September and fruits are stored until mid-January.

Fruit production of the original seedling began in the 10th year of its development; grafted saplings begin fruiting in 5–7 years, with good yield.

Winter hardiness is high (in severe winters of 1955–1956 and 1978–1979, freezing damage was only 2 points). Resistance to scab is moderate, at the level of Antonovka ordinary.

Advantages of the variety: good ecological adaptability, high consumer qualities of the fruit, and high vitamin content.

Disadvantages of the variety: fruit drop and short shelf life.
