Description
The barley variety Base belongs to the medium-late maturity group, ripening 1-3 days later than standard varieties. It features a six-rowed, medium-density ear of about 9 cm in length and a thick stem reaching 100-115 cm in height. The grain is yellow, medium-sized, and elongated, with a thousand-grain weight of 37-42 g. Due to its economically valuable traits, this variety is widely cultivated in southern regions of Ukraine, as well as on the North Caucasus, in Kyrgyzstan, and Moldova.
Base demonstrates enhanced adaptability to southern regions, characterized by good drought resistance and the ability to till well even with late autumn or early spring emergence. The variety’s winter and frost resistance is rated at 5-6 points, allowing cultivation in areas with moderately severe winters. Its lodging resistance is rated at 6-7 points, ensuring plant stability under adverse weather conditions.
The genetic resistance of the variety to head diseases is moderate (5-6 points), to powdery mildew and dwarf rust — 4-5 points, and susceptibility to helminthosporiosis is 3 points. Therefore, it is recommended to treat seeds with fungicidal protectants prior to sowing to prevent infection by pathogens. Under favorable conditions, the yield of this variety reaches 90-110 ц/га, making it attractive for agricultural production in hot-climate regions.
