Description
The spring barley variety 'Batka' is a medium-maturing brewing barley with a vegetation period ranging from 74 to 89 days. The plants are medium-sized, standing 80-90 cm tall, with a semi-upright bush and intermediate growth form. The ear is pyramidally cylindrical, loose with medium density, featuring a strong waxy coating and long barbed awns with anthocyanin-colored tips. The grain varies from medium to very large size, with a 1000-grain mass of 37-49 g, ensuring high yield and grain quality for brewing. The average yield of the variety in permitted regions, such as Central and Volga-Vyatsky, is about 29.3 centners/hectare, while in individual regions, for example, Tula, the yield reached 44.2 centners/hectare, with a maximum of 61.2 centners/hectare. The variety is distinguished by its resistance to lodging and drought at the level of standard varieties, as well as high resistance to net blotch and dark brown blotch. However, under field conditions, strong infection by helminthosporium is noted, while powdery mildew is not observed. A feature of the 'Batka' variety is its brewing purpose, which is due to the qualitative characteristics of the grain and stable yield. The variety was developed based on the Baronessa x Elena hybrid and recommended for cultivation in central regions of Russia. Thanks to its agronomic and technological properties, 'Batka' is a reliable choice for farmers focused on producing high-quality barley for the brewing industry.
