Description
COLCHAN is a mid-ripening variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) intended for grain and fodder use. The plant is characterized by medium height, with a semi-erect or intermediate tiller. The head is cylindrical, loose, covered with a strong waxy bloom, while the awns are longer than the head and have a bright anthocyanin pigmentation at the tips. The grain is large, with a mass of 1000 grains ranging from 39 to 48 g, ensuring high variety productivity. The vegetative period is 71-85 days, allowing the variety to ripen simultaneously with other mid-ripening barley varieties. The COLCHAN variety is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the West Siberian region, the Republic of Altai, forest-steppe and foothills of Altai Krai, as well as the Podtaiga foothills zone of Kemerovo Oblast and the Far Eastern region. Yield varies depending on growing conditions and can reach a maximum of 58.1 centners/hectare, which significantly exceeds the indicators of standard varieties. The variety demonstrates lodging and drought resistance at the level of standard varieties such as Signal, Omsk 87, and Odessa 100. COLCHAN has moderate resistance to powdery and loose smut, but is susceptible to helminthosporiosis and very susceptible to stem rust and root rots. Protein content in the grain ranges from 10.8 to 13.9%, making it valuable for fodder purposes. Morphological features, such as strong waxy bloom on leaf sheaths and anthocyanin pigmentation of the flag leaf ears, contribute to the variety's adaptation to various climatic conditions and increase its resistance to adverse factors.
