Description
The Coarne t spring barley variety is a mid-season, dwarf, and short-stemmed barley with high lodging resistance. The plants have an intermediate tillering type, medium heading time, and a two-row cylindrical head with medium density at maturity. This variety is distinguished by high grain uniformity and is suitable for cultivation in various regions, including Central, Volga-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, and Middle Volga, where the average yield varies from 33.4 to 58.7 c/ha, and the maximum reaches 98.6 c/ha.
Coarne t possesses high resistance to a number of diseases, including rhynchosporium and powdery mildew thanks to the effective allele of the mlo11 gene, as well as moderate resistance to helminthosporiosis and netted stem rust. The variety is characterized by medium susceptibility to root rots and is not recommended for cultivation on peatland soils. Compared to control varieties, Coarne t demonstrates superiority in yield and protein and starch content, making it a cost-effective choice for feed use.
Coarne t grain is distinguished by high quality indicators: average 1000-grain weight is 50.8 g, grain natural weight is 640 g/L, and protein content reaches 13.44%, which is somewhat lower than control varieties but is compensated by high starch yield (60.8%). The variety also has excellent malting properties, with a pearl barley yield of 54.5% and a high organoleptic rating of porridges, which expands its application possibilities in the food industry.
