Description
Khabarovsk is a variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) characterized by a medium-early maturity period and a multi-row spike structure. The vegetative period ranges from 68 to 87 days depending on the growing region. The plant is of medium height, with a semi-erect or weakly bushy stem ranging from 60 to 80 cm in height. The spike is cylindrical, of medium length, with a light waxy bloom, and the grain is of medium size with an unpubescent ventral groove. The 1000-grain mass varies from 30 to 42 grams, indicating good seed quality. The variety is resistant to lodging, which facilitates harvesting and reduces crop losses. Khabarovsk barley is distinguished by high yield, which reaches from 25.9 q/ha to 4.36 t/ha on variety plots, making it attractive to agrarians. It exhibits increased resistance to powdery and loose smut compared to other standard varieties, such as Monsoon and Vostochny. However, the variety is sensitive to helminthosporium and root rots, as well as stem rust. It is demanding in terms of soil fertility, which requires a competent agronomic approach to achieve maximum productivity. This barley is widely used as a grain-feed variety and also has prospects for use in the brewing industry. Field demonstrations and seed production tests have already been conducted in the Khabarovsk Krai, which received a positive evaluation from major producers such as Carlsberg Eastern Europe. After harvest, the grain undergoes testing in production laboratories, confirming its quality and compliance with brewing production requirements. Thus, the Khabarovsk variety represents a universal and promising solution for agriculture and the food industry.
