Description
Barley KWS Aliciana is a spring two-row variety with universal use, suitable for both feed production and brewing. It belongs to the medium-late maturing varieties with low-growing plants of medium height (~60 cm), which significantly reduces lodging risk and ensures high milling yield and grain quality retention. The variety is characterized by high yield, which in 2015 ranged from 50 to 92.8 c/ha, and 1000-grain weight of 51-54 g.
KWS Aliciana exhibits high resistance to major barley diseases, including powdery mildew, leaf blotch, and rust, allowing for maintaining high phytosanitary status of crops and reducing protection costs. The variety has low soil and preceding crop requirements, but to achieve maximum productivity, it is recommended to maintain high soil fertility and conduct mineral fertilizer applications during the vegetation period. Also, herbicide treatment at the beginning of vegetation is important to remove weeds competing for nutrients and water.
The grain of KWS Aliciana variety is characterized by high quality: low protein content, high friability, and excellent brewing properties, including high malt extract and wort fermentability. Due to these characteristics, barley is widely used in feed and brewing industries. The recommended seeding rate is 320-450 germinating seeds per square meter at a sowing depth of 3-4 cm. The variety is adapted for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe.
