Description
OMSK 95 is a mid-maturing spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety bred by Russian breeders from the State Agrarian University of Siberian Agricultural Research Institute. The vegetation period ranges from 73 to 87 days, depending on the growing region. The plants are medium-sized, with a height of 76 to 90 cm, semi-erect, with strong straw, which ensures high resistance to lodging. The ear is pyramidal, of medium density, with long awns with barbs and large yellow grain weighing 40-52 g per 1000 grains. The grain is hulled, semi-elongated, with a non-hairy ventral groove and an embracing lodicule. The variety is distinguished by high yield - on average 25.6-33 c/ha, with maximum indicators up to 55 c/ha under favorable conditions. In terms of grain quality characteristics, OMSK 95 is valued for its high protein content (11.6-15.1%), fat (about 1.99%) and starch (56.5%), which makes it suitable for both feed and food use. The plant has a strong waxy coating on the sheaths of the lower leaves and the ear, which contributes to drought resistance and some diseases. The variety shows weak susceptibility to net form and black barley mildew, medium susceptibility to powdery mildew, as well as susceptibility to solid mildew and helminthosporium. It is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including West Siberia and the Ural region, as well as the Altai region, Novosibirsk and Omsk regions. Due to its agronomic and quality characteristics, OMSK 95 is a reliable choice for agricultural producers seeking to obtain a stable and high-quality barley crop.
