OMSK 90

OMSK 90 is a medium-maturing spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety, distinguished by its valuable quality and intended for brewing purposes, among others. The plant is of medium height, with a pyramidal, loose spike covered with a strong waxy bloom. The 1000-grain mass varies from 46 to 55 grams; the grain is very large with an unglabrous ventral furrow. The vegetative period is 68-82 days, making the variety ripen 1-3 days later than some analogues and 4-5 days earlier than others, allowing flexible scheduling of the harvest. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Urals and Western Siberia regions, as well as in the Pres-Urals and Trans-Urals steppes of the Republic of Bashkortostan. It demonstrates medium resistance to lodging and drought, as well as medium resistance to diseases such as powdery and solid fusarium, rust, and helminthosporium spots. Meanwhile, the variety is susceptible to powdery scab, helminthosporiosis, and root rots, which requires attention in agronomic activities. The yield of the OMSK 90 variety in the approved regions is on average about 23.1-23.6 centners per hectare, with maximum indicators up to 58.6 centners per hectare. In the Republic of Bashkortostan, the average yield reaches 28.4 centners per hectare, which is 4.5 centners higher than the Chelyabinsk 99 standard. The protein content in the grain varies from 10.3% to 15.8%, confirming the high quality of raw materials for the food and brewing industries.
