Description
Winter barley variety Preria (Steppe 1) is a national standard for drought resistance and is intended for cultivation in the steppe zone. This variety is distinguished by a powerful root system, which ensures resistance to significant climatic fluctuations, including heat and drought. The vegetation period is medium-early and ranges from 70 to 78 days, allowing effective use of the variety under steppe conditions.
The ear is two-rowed, medium-length, straw-yellow in color, and awned with smooth awns. It is characterized by strength and does not break upon ripening. The grain is membranous, elastic, and semi-long, with a main long-hair awn. The straw is yellow, elastic, and resilient, contributing to resistance against lodging. The 1000-grain weight varies from 50 to 60 grams.
The Preria variety is characterized by high and stable yield, reaching 53-60 c/ha (5.3-6.0 t/ha), as well as high ecological plasticity. It possesses high resistance to lodging (8-9 points out of 9), drought resistance, and heat tolerance, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under challenging steppe climatic conditions. Additionally, the variety demonstrates good resistance to major barley diseases.
