Description
The spring barley variety Salomе is a two-row brewing barley with high yield potential, recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the forest-steppe, Polissia, North-Western, and Ural regions. This medium-early variety has a vegetative period of 74 to 89 days, maturing several days earlier or later than some standard varieties, providing flexibility in agronomic timing. Plant height ranges from 52 to 60 cm, and the 1000-grain weight varies from 43 to 55 grams. Salomе features a short stem and high ecological plasticity, contributing to good lodging resistance and adaptability to various growing conditions. The yield of the Salomе variety reaches up to 80 centners per hectare at a seeding rate of 3.5–4.5 million viable seeds per hectare. The variety positively responds to nitrogen fertilization, with recommended application of ammonium nitrate at 150–200 kg per hectare before sowing, as well as application of the growth regulator Tseron during the formation of the second internode for optimal plant development. In the North-Western region, average yield is approximately 32.8 centners per hectare, exceeding the average standard by 2.9 centners per hectare. Salomе exhibits good resistance to powdery mildew and moderate resistance to fusarium, but is susceptible to rhiinospory, helminthosporium, root rots, and striped spot. Protein content in the grain varies from 8.0% to 12.5%, making it attractive for the brewing industry. The variety was included in the state register since 2014 and has been successfully used in commercial plantings since 2016, demonstrating stable yield and grain quality indicators.
