Description
Salaire is a new spring barley grain and fodder variety created by the method of hybridization and individual selection. It is characterized by medium maturity and medium height, with a vegetation period ranging from 72 to 88 days. The mass of 1000 grains varies within 42-55 grams, indicating good grain quality. The variety is distinguished by high yield, which in various regions reaches 3.54 t/ha, which is 8.6% higher compared to the standard variety Signal. In the Ural region, the yield is about 24.5 c/ha. Salair also shows superiority in such agronomic indicators as productive branching, ear fullness, and grain nativity. In terms of quality characteristics, the variety is valued for its high protein content, which ranges from 10.4 to 15.2%. This makes it attractive for use as fodder. The variety is resistant to solid head smut both under artificial infection and on a natural background, and also has moderate resistance to stem rust and Swedish fly. In terms of drought resistance, Salair outperforms standard varieties Monsoon and Signal, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under conditions of insufficient moisture. The variety is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones, including steppe, forest-steppe, and foothill areas of Siberia, the Far East, as well as Western, Central, and Eastern steppe zones of the Orenburg region. Under forest-steppe conditions of the Priobye Altai Territory, Salair demonstrates stable high yields, confirming its adaptability and reliability. Thanks to the combination of high productivity, disease resistance, and grain quality characteristics, Salair is a promising variety for widespread application in agriculture.
