Description
SB CITRA is a medium-maturing variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) primarily intended for brewing. It features a vegetative period of 72 to 90 days and belongs to the nudans variety. Plants of this variety have average height with a short stem and an intermediate bush type. The ear is pyramidally-cylindrical in shape with medium density, long awned bristles, and weak anthocyanin coloring. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 40 to 53 grams; the grain is large and very large, with an un-hairy ventral furrow and an embracing lodicule. The variety is distinguished by good lodging resistance, exceeding standard varieties by 0.4-1.0 points in this indicator. Regarding drought resistance, it is moderately drought-resistant, lagging behind some varieties by up to 1 point. Under field conditions, SB CITRA shows weak susceptibility to powdery mildew but may be susceptible to helminthosporium and dark-brown blotch. Genetically, the variety is resistant to the accumulation of dimethyl sulfide from previous crops, which positively affects the organoleptic properties of beer produced from this barley. SB CITRA is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Central, Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga, and Ural regions, as well as in the Ryazan region, Kirov region, Mari El Republic, and the zones of the North and Northeast Forest-Steppe of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Average yield in the Central region is about 28.8 c/ha, in the Ryazan region it reaches 44.0 c/ha with maximum indicators up to 59.0 c/ha. Due to its qualities and adaptability, the variety is a valuable choice for the brewing industry and agricultural production.
