Description
SOLIST is a mid-maturing spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety intended mainly for malting. The plant is characterized by medium height and short straw length, with an intermediate bush type. The ear is pyramidally cylindrical in shape with medium density, strong waxy bloom, and long barbed awns with anthocyanin coloration. The grain is large, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 36 to 46 grams, featuring a non-hairy furrow and an embracing lodicule. The vegetative period is 74-90 days, allowing the variety to mature slightly earlier or later than some other varieties, such as Ataman, Vladimir, Raushan, and Elf. The variety differs by good lodging and drought resistance at the level of standard varieties, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions, including the Central region of Russia, Bryansk and Tula regions, as well as the Ural and West Siberian regions. The yield of the variety in the Central region reaches an average of 29.2 c/ha, which is 2.9 c/ha higher than the standard average, while in the Bryansk region, the addition to the Ataman variety was 2.5 c/ha with a yield of 22.8 c/ha. The maximum recorded yield reached 56.9 c/ha. SOLIST has moderate susceptibility to striped mosaic and powdery scab, as well as a medium level of infection by dark brown blotch and helminthosporium. The grain of the variety is distinguished by high quality: protein content ranges from 10.7 to 17.5%, fat is about 2.25%, and starch is 56.2%. Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is suitable both for malting purposes and for grain-feed use, demonstrating stability and high productivity under various climatic conditions.
