Description
Vakula barley is a medium-maturing spring barley variety of Ukrainian selection, distinguished by high yield and resistance to adverse conditions. The vegetation period is 75-80 days, allowing the variety to be used in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe. The variety features large, uniform grain with a 1000-grain weight of 42-50 grams and protein content up to 13%. Potential yield reaches 9-9.6 tons per hectare, with average yield around 5 tons per hectare.
Vakula exhibits high resistance to lodging and drought, confirmed by ratings of 8-9 points for these traits. Additionally, the variety shows reduced photoperiod sensitivity, ensuring stable yields regardless of spring sowing dates and across different latitudinal zones. A key advantage is high resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, stripe rust, and rust, with resistance ratings ranging from 7 to 9 points.
To achieve maximum productivity, intensive cultivation technologies are recommended with seed sowing rates of 118-200 kg per hectare, ideally 120-180 kg/ha. The variety is suitable for cultivation on soils with varying acidity and adapted to different agroclimatic conditions. High yield, disease resistance, and resilience to climatic stress make Vakula barley an advantageous choice for grain production in most regions of Ukraine.
