Developed by the Nosivka Research Station, this winter barley variety is engineered for yield stability under diverse climatic conditions in Ukraine. It is a six-row winter variety that balances morphological robustness with comprehensive resistance to primary cereal pathogens.

Biological Traits and Protection

The core objective of this breeding program was to maximize spike development while maintaining superior tillering capacity. Due to its innate genetic resistance to smut diseases, the crop effectively minimizes potential yield losses during the generative phase.

Under field conditions, 'Variant' demonstrates significant tolerance to:

• Helminthosporiosis, which is a common cause of grain shriveling;
• Stem smut, which typically requires intensive fungicide management;
• Powdery mildew, a pathogen that restricts photosynthesis during the stem elongation stage.

The variety is technically optimized for intensive farming systems. The six-row spike structure ensures a high commercial grain output, which is essential for maintaining margins per hectare. Furthermore, its inherent resistance to smut significantly reduces input costs associated with both seed treatment and spring-season fungicide applications.
