Marquis

Marquis is a mid-early basil variety with a vegetative period of 50-60 days. The plant is compact, 30-40 cm tall, with a spherical shape and a densely leafy stem. Side shoots are pressed against the main stem, giving the plant a neat and compact appearance. Leaves are small, elliptical in shape, green with a rarely serrated edge, and petiolate. The mass of one plant reaches approximately 150 grams. A distinctive feature of this variety is the pronounced clove-pepper aroma, which makes the greens particularly valuable for culinary use.

This basil is distinguished by good cold hardiness, which allows it to be grown in regions with a moderate climate. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to plant seedlings in open ground after the threat of frost has passed. The site should be well-lit and protected from northern winds, as a lack of light reduces the aroma of the plants. Seeds are sown to a depth of 1-1.5 cm, and when harvesting shoots, 1-2 pairs of leaves are left on the stem for further growth.

Marquis basil greens are widely used fresh and dried in home cooking and for canning. They go perfectly with cheeses, mushrooms, beans, and aubergines, imparting a spicy and rich taste to dishes.
